Guild Card as of 4/11/2011!

Hello! Dagger_32 with an awesome update! On March 31st at 4:45 pm I received my copy of Monster Hunter Portable 3rd! First thing I did was enjoy that new game smell! That was followed by me looking over the box art and realizing the only thing I could read where the words “HUNTING ACTION!” Hahahaha!

Dagger32 in Aoashira Armor!

I installed it, downloaded a few quests and felynes, and then made my character, Dagger32! The first thing I noticed was how insanely good the graphics are! Just WOW!  I proceeded to do my first quest which was the usual Gather Mushrooms quest. Ever since then I have loved every minute. Sure I have only had the game for 10 days and I am only 54 hours and 40 minutes into it, but I can already tell I will reach at least the 300 hour mark with this one.There is just so much content! (Not as much as MHFU, but way more than MH Tri)

Dagger32 in Rangurotora Armor!

I am currently only HR3. I have cleared every single Village Quest EXCEPT the final one which is called “Who Eats In The End!” You have to kill a Deviljho, Tigrex, and Nargacuga! HOLY BALLS! The Tigrex and Narga are no problem, but taking on the Deviljho seems impossible with my current equipment. I have tried a few times and it seems like the trick is to wait until he is exhausted, since the battle is in the arena there is nothing for him to eat. I got sick of getting my ass kicked so I moved on to the Guild Quests.

All my HR 1 quests are cleared. When I am playing solo I am clearing my HR2 stuff, if I am on Ad Hoc Party I am working on clearing a few HR3 quests in hopes of unlocking my Urgent so I can finally do some +Rank quests! If you ever feel like hoping online just add me on PSN: Dagger_32

With Monster Hunter Portable 3rd on its way I have been busy preparing. I have never played a game that was completely in Japanese. Although I do own Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G I have NEVER opened it because it is my precious…(Shut up, that is not creepy) This will be my first time playing an imported game, I will admit, I am afraid the language barrier may have a negative effect on the overall experience. However I am getting ready!

After some research I found an AWESOME website full of just about all the translations I will need. (You can check it out here!)  After looking at that website my insane Monster Hunter obsession started to kick in.

When I play Monster Hunter I like to solo my way through most of the Village Quests before taking the game online. It is the perfect way to get some decent armor and weapons, plus it helps me learn the new monster’s attacks and how to evade and defend. When I hop online, with the low rank quests, I usually find people with higher Hunter Ranks that can just blow through all the quest for me. …that is really not my thing. If I have a new Monster Hunter, I want to enjoy it, even if it means being a n00b for a while. If I go up against a new monster for the first time, I want to get my ass kicked! That is how I learn! Better to make the mistakes during solo Village Quests than when I am in a group online! Plus, all the practice really pays off when I get to the higher ranks!

I digress, LOL! (What? It happens when the subject is Monster Hunter!) I was looking at the Village Quests, checking out what was new and trying to learn some symbols. I started planning my first few goals of the game!

First on the list, get new armor!  I am currently torn between Banhabra armor and Jaggi armor!

Jaggi Armor

Both are pretty average beginning armors that I will not use for very long. Doing a skills check, I believe Jaggi wins with Attack Up S, Recovery Spd +1, Capture Guru and the negative effect Item Use Down. Not bad early game skills. I may make Bnahabra as well! (Cosmetically it wins, hands down.) If I do it will be for gunning. It has the extremely handy Status Atk  +1 skill, which would go great with a bow….

Speaking of bows, that brings me to weapons. I am undecided which weapon type I will be using. I know when it comes to gunning I will stick with bows for a while. (Though, I rarely gun solo.) Typically I use a Great Sword and Duals… I might try to mix it up this time around. We shall see!

My armor and weapon choices will be preparing me for my very first Urgent Quest which is Blue Bear: Aoashira!

Sure, he looks a little …ummm…derpy…but I cannot wait to fight this guy! He is brand spanking new and the first real “boss” of the game!

Now all that is left to do is actually get the game…

Not gonna’ lie, I am incredibly nervous to receive my copy of Portable 3. I have been doing my own personal study of the Japanese language for a few years, but sometimes I don’t really think that anime will really cut it anymore, hehe. I feel I will rely on that nifty website, too.

Right now I am actually keeping myself busy by picking Unite back up. You can only go so far in Tri until you start to get bored with everything. I live with another Hunter, so it’s definitely much more fun going through all of the Guild Hall’s quests again after a few months of not playing Unite at all. Unfortunately for me, I can’t seem to get my hands on a PS3. My hopes of AdHoc are shot down for a while, and I just hate XLink Kai in general.

Still, I feel like being unable to get into the online part of the game helps me in the long-run. I hate those people you see running around with armor which far exceeds their actual talent. Just seems like a waste of space.
ANYHOW, unlike Dagger, I am not too worried with all of my choices for armor and weapon yet. I think I may stick with n00b armor for a while, or at least until I can get me some Aoashira. Sorry for girliness, but OMGLYKSOKYOOT. Anyway, when it comes to weapons, I think I will stick with my trusty longswords. I don’t want to get into gunning, especially when everything is in Japanese. That’s just what I call adding insult to injury: something I don’t understand combined with something else I understand less.

Sounds like a good time to me.

Still nothing new since Friday! I am going insane, so I thought I would start up this blog! This blog’s main focus is the Monster Hunter series by Capcom. The series has been around since 2004 and is HUGE in Japan. However, it does not have quite the same following here in North America. Someday that will change! Until then I will use this space to talk all things Monster Hunter and hopefully spread the word on what a great, must play game it really is! Occasionally my younger sister, Scout, will pop in and give her two cents. She also works on fan art which will be posted here periodically!

I am sure my fellow gamer friends will be pleased that I now I have place to put my Monster Hunter rants and raves!

This blog is still in the works. I am not crazy about the layout and much of my game information needs to be updated! Feel free to leave suggestions/comments below and feel free to subscribe!
